The Cat in the Hat is coming to Mesa County Libraries in November

A mischievous, likeable cat is coming to Mesa County Libraries and Rocky Mountain PBS in November.

Mesa County Libraries, Rocky Mountain PBS, and Mesa County Spellbinders will host Cat in the Hat Week at library locations throughout the county during the week of Nov. 5-10. Puppet shows, stories, crafts, games, and appearances by The Cat will highlight the week. The big party happens Saturday, Nov. 10, with the Holiday Hoople-de-doople Cat-stravaganza at the Central Library featuring a showing of the new holiday TV special, “The Cat in the Hat Knows a Lot about Christmas!”

The holiday special will air on Rocky Mountain PBS at 7:30 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 21; 7 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 22; 7 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 23; and 7:30 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 25.

Below is the schedule of fun for Cat in the Hat Week. All events at Mesa County Libraries are open to the public at no charge!

Monday, Nov. 5

- 10 a.m. at the Orchard Mesa Branch, 230 Lynwood St.: Special “Cat in the Hat” Story Time with a visit from The Cat.

Tuesday, Nov. 6

- 10 a.m. at the Central Library, 655 N. 1st St.: Story Time with “Cat in the Hat” puppet show and an appearance by The Cat.

- 10 a.m. at the Palisade Branch, 119 W. 3rd St.: Special “Cat in the Hat” Story Time with crafts.

- 6:30 p.m. at the Central Library: Neighbors Read Family Story Night featuring Mesa County Spellbinders.

Wednesday, Nov. 7

-  2 p.m. at the Central Library: Kids’ Club, featuring “Cat in the Hat” games, such as Trick-a-ma-Stick, a game that asks children to perform wacky actions with small toys from “The Cat in the Hat,”  as well as a tic-tac-toe, a hat toss, and a cat tricks game.

Thursday, Nov. 8

- 10 a.m. at the Central Library: Story Time with “Cat in the Hat” puppet show and an appearance by The Cat.

- 10 a.m. at the Clifton Branch, 590 32 Road: Special “Cat in the Hat” Story Time with crafts.

- 10 a.m. at the Fruita Branch, 324 N. Coulson St.: Special “Cat in the Hat” Story Time with crafts.

Friday, Nov. 9

- 10:30 a.m. at the Collbran Branch, 111 Main St.: Special “Cat in the Hat” Story Time with crafts.

- 11 a.m. at the De Beque Branch, 730 Minter Ave.: Special “Cat in the Hat” Story Time with crafts.

Saturday, Nov. 10

The Holiday Hoople-de-doople Cat-stravaganza at the Central Library!

2 p.m. – “Cat in the Hat” Story Time and puppet show, with a visit from The Cat in the Hat and photos.

2:30 p.m. – “Cat in the Hat” crafts and music

3:30 p.m. – Screening of “The Cat in the Hat Knows a Lot about Christmas!” with refreshments.

 

In addition, Rocky Mountain PBS will hold a members-only event, “Cookies and Milk with The Cat in the Hat,” from 3:30-4:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 9, at the PBS office at 414 Main St. Rocky Mountain PBS members and their children are invited to the event, which will include Cat in the Hat giveaways and a visit from The Cat.
