“The Dog Stars” by Peter Heller has been named the 2013 One Book, One Mesa County selection. The novel, published this year, is about a pilot named Hig struggling to survive in post-apocalyptic Colorado. After Hig’s family and friends – and most other people – die in a flu epidemic, Hig’s challenge is to survive and find meaning in a decimated world. “The Dog Stars” explores the deep need for human relationships and how people survive loss and hardship. Peter Heller is an award-winning adventure writer and lives in Denver.
