Celebrate the holidays with puppet shows and other activities at Mesa County Libraries

Complete your holiday cheer at Mesa County Libraries. Your local library has a variety of books and movies to help you celebrate the spirit of the season, and holiday puppet shows and Story Times are planned for youngsters.

 In addition, holiday shoppers can find plenty of book bargains at A Novel Idea, the bookstore operated at the Central Library by the Friends of the Mesa County Libraries. Other library locations also have book sales that benefit the library.

 Here is a list of holiday happenings at Mesa County Libraries locations:


Central Library, First Street and Gunnison Avenue

 – “Santa’s New Helper” puppet show. Rudolph is sick, and Santa needs to find a helper to pull his sleigh. Find out who will help Santa deliver toys.

               10 a.m. and 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 11.

               2 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 12.

               10 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 13.

               10 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 15.

 – Annual holiday sing-along with Ruthmary and Santa.

            10 a.m. and 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 18.

            10 a.m Thursday, Dec. 20.


 Clifton Branch, 590 32 Road

 – Join us for a visit from Santa! He will stop by the Clifton Branch after Story Time at 10 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 13.

 – Children’s puppet show: “Santa’s New Suit,” 10 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 20.


 Collbran Branch, 111 Main St.

 – Children’s puppet show: “Santa’s New Suit,” 10:30 a.m. Friday, Dec. 14.


 De Beque Branch, 730 Minter Ave.

 – Children’s puppet show: “Santa’s New Suit,” 11 a.m. Friday, Dec. 21.


 Fruita Branch, 324 N. Coulson St.

 – Children’s puppet show: “Santa’s New Suit,” 10 a.m. and 11 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 13.


 Orchard Mesa Branch, 230 Lynwood St.

 – Children’s puppet show: “Santa’s New Suit,” 10 a.m. Monday, Dec. 17.


 Palisade Branch, 119 W. Third St.

 – Patron Appreciation Open House with the Palisade Library Auxiliary, 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 8. Stop by during the Palisade Olde Fashioned Christmas celebration for homemade cookies, a book sale, and local authors.

 – Palisade Chamber of Commerce Soup Challenge, 1-3 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 8, in the Palisade Branch Library Courtyard. For $3, you can sample and vote on gourmet soups prepared by chefs from various local restaurants. Proceeds go to the Palisade Chamber of Commerce.

 – Join us for a special Story Time, “A Visit from St. Nicholas,” and a special guest (Santa), 6 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 13.

 – Children’s puppet show: “Santa’s New Suit,” 10 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 18.
