By now, most everyone that knows that the new whodunit, The Cuckoo’s Calling, by Robert Galbraith, was actually written by J.K. Rowling. It’s a mystery set in London in which Cormoran Strike, a decorated war veteran who lost his leg in a land mine explosion in Afghanistan, is hired to find out the truth behind the apparent suicide of beautiful supermodel Lula Landry. Strike has split from his wealthy, unstable fiancee, and is broke and living in his office. Things start to look up when he is hired by Landry’s brother to investigate, and when a smart, pretty new temp named Robin shows up to help. It’s a bit long, but cleverly written, with sympathetic characters, and a surprising conclusion.
