Comic Con to celebrate comics, sci-fi, and more Oct. 8  

 

comic-con-logo-2016-croppedCostumes, fan meet-ups, a panel discussion, and a variety of activities for kids, teens, and adults will highlight the second annual Mesa County Libraries Comic Con from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 8, 2016, at the Central Library, Fifth Street and Grand Avenue in Grand Junction.

 

Comic Con is a celebration of comic books, comic art, pop culture, science fiction, fantasy, anime, manga, books, graphic novels, movies, and more. Last year’s inaugural library Comic Con attracted more than 1,600 people, and this year’s event is expected to draw even more. In addition to a day filled with events and activities, Comic Con will feature a number of local comic-related vendors. There’s something for everyone at Comic Con!

 

The event is open to everyone at no charge, and attendees are encouraged to dress as their favorite characters!

SCHEDULE OF EVENTS – Saturday, Oct. 8, 2016, at the Central Library

 

  • Intro to Cosplay Workshop with Shadowfall Workshop – 10 a.m.-Noon in the Community Room
    The Intro To Cosplay Workshop will include the basic steps to create your first costume and many more to come, addressing topics such as choosing your costume, finding fabric, sewing, and foam fabrication of armor and props.

 

  • 501st Legion Meet & Greet –1-2 p.m. in the Community Room
    Meet members of the 501st Legion, learn how they make their own movie-quality Star Wars Empire costumes, and find out how you might be able to join the Legion!

 

  • Panel of Geek Gurus – 2-3 p.m. in the Community Room
    Hear from and ask questions of local experts on topics such as comics, animation, gaming, sci-fi, and more. Featuring Sundial Hoffman, Arn McConnell, James Van Pelt, Bryan Wade, and Trudi Wagner.

 

  • Costume Contest and Parade – 3 p.m. at the Central Library. If you have a costume, wear it! If you don’t, come and see this amazing display of creative costume designs. Prizes will be awarded in kid, teen, and adult categories.

 

  • Fandom Meetups on the Central Library Patio
    Each all-ages gathering will be 45 minutes long. Join other enthusiasts for trivia, crafts, games and activities based on your favorite topic!

 

West Side:
Star Wars – 10 a.m.
Superheroes – 11 a.m.
Anime & Manga – 1 p.m.
Star Trek – 2 p.m.

 

East Side:
Doctor Who – 10 a.m.
Harry Potter – 11 a.m.
Walking Dead – 1 p.m.
Pokemon/Nintendo – 2 p.m.

 

  • Story Time – 10-11 a.m. in the Children’s Area

 

  • Face Painting by Christina Pope, the “Paint Girl” – 11 a.m.-Noon in the Children’s Area

 

  • Drawing with the Pros, featuring Bryan Wade at 1 p.m., Aaron Herrera at 1:30 p.m., and Mary Carman at 2 p.m. (in the Children’s Area). If you’ve ever wanted to learn how to draw the perfect comic, this is your chance!
