Celebrate the holidays with music, shows, and giving at Mesa County Libraries

From puppet shows to musical events, your local libraries have a variety of events happening this holiday season. All events are open to the public at no charge. Here’s a sample:

“Thanksgiving with Henny Penny” puppet show

Henny Penny is sure that the sky is falling, and she alerts all of her friends at Plymouth Colony. But she needs to be more concerned about Foxy Loxy, who is in search of Thanksgiving dinner. The show happens Nov. 17-23 at the Central Library, 443 N. 6th St., Grand Junction.

“Peter and the Wolf” puppet show

This classic story told through puppets will take place Nov. 29-Dec. 16 at various library locations.

  • 10 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 1, at the Clifton Branch, 590 32 Road
  • 10:30 a.m. Friday, Dec. 2, at the Collbran Branch, 111 Main St.
  • 10 a.m. and 11 a.m. Monday, Dec. 5, at the Fruita Branch, 324 N. Coulson St.
  • 2 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 8, at the Gateway Branch, 42700 Highway 141
  • 11 a.m. Friday, Dec. 9, at the De Beque Branch, 730 Minter Ave.
  • 10 a.m. Friday, Dec. 16, at the Orchard Mesa Branch, 230 Lynwood St.

 

“Santa’s New Helper” puppet show

When Rudolph gets sick, who will pull Santa’s sleigh? Find out at “Santa’s New Helper” Dec. 13-17 at the Central Library.

  • 2 p.m. and 3 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 14
  • 10 a.m. and 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 15

Jingle Bell Party

Celebrate the holiday season at the children’s Jingle Bell Party, where you’ll find a holiday photo shoot, games, bells to ring, and more!

  • After the 10 a.m. story times Tuesday, Dec. 6, and Thursday, Dec. 8, at the Central Library

 

Holiday Music with the Redlands Middle School Choir and Orchestra

The 8th grade choir and orchestra from Redlands Middle School will perform holiday favorites (and more!) under the direction of Sandra Currier.

  • 10 a.m. Monday, Dec. 12, at the Central Library

 

Holiday Sing-Along and Meet Santa!

Kids and their families can sing their favorite holiday songs with Ruthmary playing her autoharp, and then meet the special guest, Santa Claus!

  • 10 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 20, and 10 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 22, at the Central Library

 

Dance numbers from “The Nutcracker”

Students from Absolute Dance Performing Arts present dance excerpts from their performance of “The Nutcracker” ballet.

  • 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 1, at the Central Library

 

Sing holiday songs

Students from Creative Avenue Preschool will sing holiday songs.

Holiday music with Jack + Jill

Well-known local musical duo Jack + Jill sing and play fun holiday music with their guitar and violin.

  • 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 22, at the Central Library

 

’Tis the Season to Color

Take time out of the busy season to take part in this holiday-themed coloring activity for adults!

  • 4 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 8, at the Orchard Mesa Branch, 230 Lynwood St.

 

A Geeky Holiday Party especially for teens

Teens are invited to this holiday party, which will celebrate all things geeky with fandom-related music, food, games, and crafts. Cosplay is encouraged!

  • 3 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 22, at the Central Library

 

Cowboy Christmas Story Time at the Collbran Branch

Don’t miss a special story time at the Collbran Branch Library during Collbran’s Cowboy Christmas Celebration. Enjoy cookies, cider, and stories!

  • 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 17, at the Collbran Branch, 111 Main St.

 

Make snowflakes!

Kids can take their imagination for a spin as they make paper snowflakes.

  • 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 29, at the Central Library

 

Help the less fortunate with the Giving Tree

Fulfill a gift request from a Giving Tree, and help a Mesa County resident in need this holiday season.

  • Nov. 16-Dec. 10 at the Central Library and library locations in Clifton, De Beque, Fruita, and Palisade
