Guys Read

Hi Everyone,

It’s Trevor from Youth Services. Sometimes it can be a challenge to spark boys’ interest in reading, especially the reluctant ones. I believe that if we can help boys find the right books, they’ll figure out that reading is cool and they’ll really enjoy it! I wanted to start providing some cool resources to spark boys’ interest in reading, to help those reluctant readers. Recently, I found this great website – I can’t believe I haven’t checked out this website until now; it has so much cool stuff on it – lots of great tools to get boys interested in books. Also, we have a Hugo movie and Brian Selznick display up at Central right now, and we are brainstorming about what next to do in “The War Against Boys Not Reading”! We will keep you posted…

    Hey, Trevor.

I think what you’re doing is a great thing. I was not into reading when I was a kid but my Dad sparked my interest with comic books. I realize that this may not necessarily be the medium you’re looking for, however, it might help spark another young man’s interest in reading. From the homepage of Marvel Comics (, there is a link to digital comics that can be read online.

Also, a few weeks ago you asked for my opinion on books that I enjoyed reading as a boy. Two of my favorites were ‘To Kill a Mockingbird’ and ‘My Side of the Mountain.’

    I hope this helps,
