New HVAC unit to temporarily limit Central Library parking

A crane prepares to unload the new HVAC unit at the Central Library Thursday morning.

Parking in the east lot at the Central Library will be limited for the next few days as Mesa County Libraries prepare to install a new heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) unit on the building’s roof.

The new HVAC unit was delivered Thursday morning and is scheduled to be installed early next week. Until then, the unit will be stored in the east parking lot, thus reducing the number of available parking spaces. To accommodate the installation work, the Central Library will be closed Tuesday, Sept. 5. (All libraries in the district will be closed Monday, Sept. 4, for Labor Day.)

The current rooftop HVAC unit at the Central Library was installed in 1998. The replacement is necessary to ensure reliability of heating and cooling in the building.

Cost of the project is about $215,000.

We appreciate our patrons’ patience during this project.
