Learn how to get the most from Grand Valley Transit via two field trips in July

GVT bus photoMesa County Libraries and Grand Valley Transit are hosting two field trips in July aimed at helping Grand Junction and Clifton residents learn how to ride the local transit system.

A field trip from the Central Library to Fruita on Thursday, July 11, is for adults 50 and older and will highlight senior services available to transit riders. A separate field trip on Monday, July 22, from the Clifton Branch Library to Lincoln Park will highlight transit services available to parents and families.

  • Grand Valley Transit Travel Training and Senior Services

Half-Day Field Trip from the Central Library to Fruita

9:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. Thursday, July 11

Trip begins and ends at the Mesa County Libraries Central Library, 443 N. 6th St. in Grand Junction

Learn how to ride Grand Valley Transit and how to take advantage of the Silver Sneakers and Silver Fit program with a fun and informative half-day bus trip to Fruita, provided free of charge by GVT. Participants will begin at the Mesa County Libraries Central Library with a short Travel Training presentation on the basics of riding the bus. This program is open to adults 50 and older at no charge. Space is limited, and preregistration is required via the library’s online Events Calendar or by calling 970-243-4442.

 

  • Grand Valley Transit Travel Training for Families

Field Trip from the Clifton Branch Library to Lincoln Park in Grand Junction

10 a.m.-1 p.m. Monday, July 22

Trip begins and ends at the Mesa County Libraries Clifton Branch, 590 32 Road

Families can learn how to use Grand Valley Transit to reach activity centers, parks, and places for family entertainment by taking a fun and informative bus trip from Clifton to Grand Junction. Participants will begin at the Mesa County Libraries Clifton Branch with a short Travel Training presentation on the basics of riding the bus, then will take a short 1/3-mile walk to the GVT Transfer Facility and board the Route 9 bus to Lincoln Park. Families can play in the park or gain free admission to the Splash Pad at Lincoln Park Pool. The return trip leaves at 12:20 p.m., arriving back in Clifton about 1 p.m. This program is open to families at no charge, and children must be supervised by an adult. Participants should pack water, snacks or lunch, and swim gear if they plan to use the Splash Pad. Space is limited, and preregistration is required via the library’s online Events Calendar or by calling 970-243-4442.
