eBooks for Young Children

If you have an early reader in your family who is wanting a little more independence, consider looking at eBooks. eBooks can be a great resource for new and emerging readers, especially read along titles. Read along eBooks will display the text of the book, and highlight the words as they are read aloud. When children encounter new vocabulary, hearing it pronounced out loud can aid their reading experience. Mesa County Libraries has multiple resources for families to read books together, and enjoy fun animations and games that accompany the books.

TumbleBooks is an eBook library, with several titles that are animated read along eBooks. Click on the orange “Read Along” tab at the top of the page and start listening! For more independent readers, consider exploring the rest of the TumbleBooks library, such as their graphic novels section.

BookFlix by Scholastic is recommended for Preschool-3rd grade readers. Bookflix offers read along fiction and nonfiction pairings. For example, read and listen to the fiction title “Antarctic Antics” about silly penguins, and then read and listen to the nonfiction title “Antarctica”. Accompanying each book pairing, there are fun features such as games like “Word Match” or “Fact or Fiction?” that ask questions about the books you’ve just read.
