Library fans add their names to a beam that was placed in the new Clifton Branch Library.

Signatures of more than 500 library fans adorned a structural beam that was placed into the framework of the new Clifton Branch Jan. 23. (See a video here.

Before the beam was placed, a beam-signing event took place at Rocky Mountain Elementary School that attracted students, teachers, and parents, along with Mesa County Libraries staff, volunteers, board members, and other community members. Signatures were proudly placed all over the beam, which will be visible inside the building once the structure is complete later this year.

Hot beverages for the event were provided by The Novel Cup. We want to thank our team at FCI Constructors and the staff of Rocky Mountain Elementary School for helping to make the beam-signing celebration a safe and fun event for everyone.

The new Clifton Branch is located at 3270 D 1/2 Road, next to Rocky Mountain Elementary School. Construction of the new library branch continues on schedule, in coordination with the other new construction being planned for the Mesa County Clifton Community Campus.

In late January, welding inspections were completed, and roofing material will arrive by the end of February. Plumbing work is also scheduled to begin later in February. As construction continues, staff from FCI, Ratio Architects, and Wember (the owner’s representative) continue to meet weekly with library administrators and board members to review progress and discuss upcoming aspects of the project, including electrical systems, telecommunications, and other utilities, as well as interior design, furniture, and artwork, in order to ensure clear communication about all of the many pieces coming together to make the vision for the Clifton Branch a reality.

The new Clifton Branch will be approximately three times the size of the current library serving Clifton. Project completion is expected in late summer or early fall. The $11.5 million project is being funded by the Mesa County Public Library District and a Mesa County Libraries Foundation capital campaign.

If you would like to make a donation to support the new library, please visit the Clifton Branch webpage to find out more. Naming opportunities are available for major gifts to the capital campaign; please contact Development Director Ami Schiffbauer at 970-683-2438 for information.
