Comic Con Juried Art Show Call for Art

Artwork is being sought for the Mesa County Libraries Comic Con Juried Art Show, to be displayed September 1 to October 26 at the Central Library in downtown Grand Junction. There are three age categories for artists (11 and under, 12-18, and 19 and older) and prizes will be awarded in each age group.

Art work should be appropriate for all ages and should follow the spirit of Comic Con, which highlights graphic literature, sequential art, and comics as a literary medium. Acceptable entries should be original art relevant to:

  • Pop-culture entertainment
  • Comics
  • Sci-fi
  • Fantasy
  • Fan art
  • Original characters
IMPORTANT DATES
  • Entry deadline: Monday, August 14 by 8pm
  • Show dates: September 1 to October 26
  • Artist notification: By August 25 via email
ELIGIBILITY
  • Exhibition is competitive and open to artists of all ages residing in Mesa County, Colorado.
  • 2D work must be ready for hanging and cannot exceed 30” x 42” or weigh more than 40 lbs. Work must be display-ready with a secure wire hanger and if subject to damage must be under glass or plexiglass.
  • 3D work can be submitted for hanging or for display in covered pedestals. For hanging works, follow the guidelines above. For pedestal works, size must not exceed 14x14x14″. Please note that only 4-5 pieces will be selected for pedestal display due to space limitations.
  • Juror will have final authority to define an acceptable entry.
LIABILITY
  • Mesa County Libraries assume no responsibility for the preservation or protection of any exhibit accepted for temporary display, or any liability for possible damage or theft of these items while in transit or on the library premises. All works accepted for temporary display are placed at the owner’s risk.
ENTRIES
  • Artists may submit 2 entries by digital image. An additional image of the submitted work to show detail or an alternative view is allowed. Up to 2 pieces will be accepted per artist. Art submitted must be appropriate for all ages.
DEADLINE
  • Entries will be accepted online through 8 pm, Monday, August 14
EXHIBITION
  • All accepted works will be on exhibit at the Central Library from September 1 through October 26.
  • The owner of the work must acknowledge and agree that the Library will not act as an agent for the owner. Artist contact information may be shown with prices.
HONORARIA
  • Ages 11 and under
    • 1st Place – $75
    • 2nd Place – $50
    • 3rd Place – $25
  • Ages 12-18
    • 1st Place – $100
    • 2nd Place – $75
    • 3rd Place – $50
  • Ages 19 and up
    • 1st Place – $200
    • 2nd Place – $175
    • 3rd Place – $150

Art Entries

Two-dimensional fine art, including photography and computer-generated work will be accepted. Artwork should be appropriate for all ages and follow the spirit of Comic Con which highlights graphic literature, sequential art, and comics as literary medium. Fan art is welcome.
