Mesa County Libraries partnered with Professor Sarah Swedberg, local African-American activists David Combs and Shannon Robinson, the Black Citizens and Friends organization, and other community groups and leaders to conduct interviews for an important new chronicle of Mesa County’s diverse voices, the Social Justice Archive.
The Social Justice Archive explores the lives of African-Americans in the Grand Valley, challenges they face, and their involvement in the transformative Black Lives Matter movement that has played out both nationally and locally. The Social Justice Archive resides online as its own part of the longstanding Mesa County Oral History Project, a series of interviews that have documented Western Slope history from a personal perspective since 1976. The interviews will be freely available to anyone who wants to learn more about local history through the Mesa County Libraries catalog.
