Friends of the Library
The Friends of Mesa County Libraries is a committee of Mesa County Libraries Foundation, a 501(c)(3) entity formed exclusively to support Mesa County Libraries. The Friends main function is to focus public attention on the library and to stimulate the use of the library’s resources and services.
Used Book Sales
The Friends operate A Novel Idea bookstore, located in the west hallway of the Central Library. Additional book racks are at the Clifton, Collbran, Fruita, Gateway, Orchard Mesa, and Palisade branches.
Proceeds from these and other book sale events go to cultural programming and special equipment including:
- Poetry Night
- Summer Reading Program
- Mesa County Libraries Culture Fest
- Mesa County Libraries Comic Con
- The Discovery Garden
Donations for the bookstore or book racks are not accepted at the library locations. Friends gratefully receive donations at the First Congregational Church at 1425 N. 5th St— across from Grand Junction High School. Volunteers staff the donation center on Mondays from 10am to 2pm. A weatherproof container located on the northwest corner of the parking lot is available 24/7 for donations. Please NO Encyclopedias or Magazines. There is a magazine exchange on the upper level of the Central Library (near the Nonfiction desk) where unwanted magazines can be dropped off and exchanged. Please take as many as you like! Additionally, please remove mailing labels from magazines (if applicable) before donating for security reasons. For questions about donations, please call Betty at 970-623-9255. Thank you for your donations and support of Mesa County Libraries! If you’d like to make a monetary donation, please see our Mesa County Libraries Foundation page.
