Adult Learning Center

The Adult Learning Center at Mesa County Libraries welcomes adults from all backgrounds. Classes and materials are provided to all learners at no charge.

The Adult Learning Center offers:

 

 

English as a Second Language (ESL) Classes

ESL classes are offered for adults (17 and older) who want to develop their English reading, writing, speaking, and listening skills. We have a variety of English classes available to match learner needs and scheduled. Contact 970-683-2443 or adultlearning@mcpld.org for more information.

 

GED Prep Classes

GED classes are offered to prepare adults (17 and older) to pass all four of the GED subject tests. Classes are offered in-person and online, with instructors who will meet you at your level. Learners who participate in this program should anticipate to spend eight hours each week working toward completing their GED. To learn more about getting started, contact 970-683-2443.

Additional GED/High School Diploma Resources

  • GED Study Guides from the library’s catalog.
  • Learning Express – includes GED test prep in English and Spanish, Citizenship, and more. Library card required.
  • GED.com – register to take practice tests and sign up for the actual GED test here.

 

Career Online High School (COHS)

Interested in earning your high school diploma and a career certificate? Career Online High School is a scholarship opportunity available to adults 19 years and older. Visit the library’s COHS program page to learn more about the program and to apply!

 

Citizenship Classes

Citizenship classes are designed to help students study the skills they need to pass the naturalization test. Classes are offered one time a week, for 1.5 hours per class, at a schedule which works well for you. Citizenship clinics to discuss the process to achieving citizenship with a representative from the Hispanic Affairs Project occur bimonthly. Adult Literacy Classes

Adult Literacy Classes are designed for adults with low reading and writing skill levels. If you or someone you know would like to develop foundational literacy skills, these classes are offered once per week for 1.5 hours per session. Call 970-683-2443 to learn more.

 

Volunteer Opportunities

Volunteer tutors are crucial to our students’ success. Volunteers in the Adult Learning Center work with adults one-on-one or in a small group setting to instruct reading, writing, citizenship preparation, and conversation skills. Volunteers meet with their students for 1-2 hours per week. To apply, please visit the Volunteer page on our website or contact the Volunteer Coordinator at 970-683-2432.

The Adult Learning Center depends on grants and private donations to assist in providing free services to Mesa County residents.
