De Beque Branch to reopen in new space Wednesday, Sept. 20

The Mesa County Libraries De Beque Branch is set to reopen to the public at 4 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 20, 2017, in a brand-new space at the De Beque School, 730 Minter Ave.

Library patrons will find many new amenities, such as an improved, dedicated entrance from the parking lot; a small study room; a larger room for events that includes a projector; comfortable seating; and outdoor seating. WiFi will be available during non-school hours.

The De Beque Branch was closed in mid-May to allow demolition of the previous facility and construction of the new space as part of the newly built De Beque School. During the summer, Mesa County Libraries served patrons in De Beque with a weekly pop-up library at Gazebo Park.

The library serves double duty as the school library when school is in session and as the public library during non-school hours.

“The special thing about this branch is the partnership with the De Beque School, which allows both entities to offer more resources to De Beque residents than either could do alone,” said Shana Wade, associate director of Mesa County Libraries. “De Beque school kids have access to the entire library collection, including online eResources, and the public gets use of the great new facility built by the school. We share the collection, space, and technology, which reduces costs and duplication of services.”

The previous library was about 2,500 square feet, and the new library is approximately the same size. The collection contains just over 8,000 items, and it remains the same size. As patrons of Mesa County Libraries, De Beque residents have access to more than 1 million items through the Marmot and Prospector library networks, which include libraries throughout Colorado and the Rocky Mountain West.

De Beque children and their families are invited to a puppet show, “Trouble for Papa Bear,” at 11 a.m. Friday, Sept. 29, at the new library.

De Beque Branch hours remain the same:

  • 4-7 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday
  • 9 a.m.-1 p.m. and 2-6 p.m. Friday
  • 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday
  • Closed Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday.
