May is Mental Health Awareness Month and while we are already well into it, this is a time of year when we can promote mental health and well-being. The National Institute of Mental Health estimates that over 1 in 5 adults in the United States experience mental illness. To help those in need, the National Alliance on Mental Illness encourages open discussion about mental health issues, as well as empathy, support, destigmatization, education, and policies that enhance well-being for families and individuals impacted by mental illness.
Mental health can be challenging to talk about and its importance is often understated. But whether someone suffers from anxiety, depression, or a disorder or condition, it is important for us and those around us to seek help, learn more about the effects of mental health, and strive to live fulfilling and meaningful lives. This month, is there someone you can reach out to or help get connected with support?
You can find links and contact information to various services and resources in Mesa County from our information guide on Community Resources and Services. Finding the right support can be crucial and we hope this month presents a chance for greater mental health for our community.
