During the 2024 San Diego Comic-Con, the 36th Eisner Award ceremony took place, where nominations and winners were announced. Eisner Awards go to creative achievements in the comic book and graphic novel industry and nominations are among the most notable forms of recognition for creators. Named after American cartoonist and writer, Will Eisner, the Eisner Awards are often likened to the “Oscars” of the comic book industry. This year, awards were given for 32 categories for works that were published in 2023.
Women dominated the awards this year, with awards or shared wins in 17 categories. Mariko and Jillian Tamaki won three awards for their graphic novel (Roaming) for best new graphic album, best writer, and best penciller/inker. Becky Cloonan won the award for Best New Series (Somna). Chelsea M. Campbell and Laura Knetzger won the award for best publication for early readers with Bigfoot and Nessie: The Art of Getting Noticed.
