Baking for Family Fun

February is National Bake for Family Fun Month, when families might be indoors, staying warm and indulging in baked goods.  To help your family have fun baking this month, there are a number of books and library resources with kid-friendly recipes to help you get started!  

The Big, Fun Kids Baking Book, isThe Big, Fun Kids Baking Book coversued by the Food Network Magazine, features the basics on baking for beginners, with over 100 photographed recipes for brownies, cakes, and household favorites, as well as ideas for customized recipes.  

The Baking Encyclopedia by Zoey Schrader is a new title with recipes for all kinds of baking projects that are appropriate for children.  It also includes information on the basics of baking, tips for safety and food preparation, and modern techniques.  

David Atherton’s Baking Book for Kids covers recipes by the Great British Baking Show winner that are a bit more unique, though easy to make.  It also contains wonderful illustrations, helpful tips, and guidance to help bring kids and families back to the kitchen for future fun.  

If you don’t have kids or if you prefer to bake or cook by yourself, there’s plenty of options, including the titles, Come Hungry: Salads, Meals, and Sweets for People Who Live to Eat by Melissa Ben-Ishay, or Preppy Kitchen Super Easy: 100 Simple and Versatile Recipes by John Kanell.  The library’s AtoZ World Food database is another great resource for inspiration and recipes from around the world.  You can also find a number of baking magazines from Libby, including French Baking, Bake from Scratch, and Bread Baking Made Easy.
