Library outlines COVID-19 response

Mesa County Libraries are prepared to cope with a potential local outbreak of coronavirus. 

Although no cases of the COVID-19 illness have been reported in Mesa County as of this writing (March 2, 2020), your local libraries are increasing their frequency of cleaning, especially on door handles and other surfaces that people frequently touch. Such cleaning can reduce the transmission of illnesses to people.

We are following many of the cleaning protocols that we adopted during the norovirus outbreak in the local community last November. It is difficult to know whether those cleaning procedures actually helped limit the illness’s spread, but we know from patron feedback that people appreciated the efforts and felt comfortable visiting their local libraries.

Mesa County Libraries are monitoring reliable sources of information and are staying in touch with Mesa County Public Health for up-to-date information about the coronavirus outbreak. The library takes seriously the potential of a local outbreak and intends to scale its response appropriately to the level of threat in our community.
