Overcooked 2 is a fast-paced cooking simulation game. An outbreak of Unbread (zombie bread slices) has risen in the Onion Kingdom, and you must cook to satiate their incredible hunger lest they take over the world.
These games are unique because they were designed to be played as a local cooperative or couch co-op (multiplayer on the same screen). Most games these days are marketed as an online multiplayer experience only, but Overcooked wants to bring people together. Developers took early versions of the game to conventions, often making corrections and changes on the spot in response to player requests. They felt the only way they could make a successful co-op is to have real players have a hand in creating it.
This game is addictive. It’s hard not to keep going once you’re on a roll. The levels get progressively harder, introducing new cooking methods, changing the layout of the kitchen, and creating different rules and time constraints. It’s hilarious to play with a group of friends, but also fun by yourself. I appreciate that you don’t need to devote a ton of time into this game to play and enjoy it.
Overall this game is super entertaining. I love the cutesy aesthetic and cheesy cooking puns. It reads like an arcade game, which is inviting for those just starting with video games. I think this game presents enough challenge to keep experienced players engaged, but also is easy enough in the controls that your mom could play. That says something, doesn’t it?
