National Medal for Museum and Library Service, 2024 Library Finalist

The Institute of Museum and Library Services announced on March 27, 2024, that Mesa County Libraries is among 30 finalists for the 2024 National Medal for Museum and Library Service. Mesa County Libraries is the only institution in Colorado to be selected as a finalist for this award.

The National Medal is the nation’s highest honor given to museums and libraries that demonstrate significant impact in their communities. For 30 years, the award has honored institutions that demonstrate excellence in service to their communities.

“Being nominated for the IMLS National Medal places Mesa County Libraries programs and services on a national level,” said Mesa County Libraries Executive Director, Michelle-Boisvenue-Fox.  “We are very honored and proud of our staff, volunteers, and board who work tirelessly to create an environment that fosters community engagement and our continued mission of enriching lives and building community through opportunities to learn, discover, create, and connect.”

National Medal winners will be announced in late May. Representatives from winning institutions will be honored for their extraordinary contributions during an in-person National Medals Ceremony in Washington, DC this summer. To see the full list of finalists and learn more about the National Medal, visit the IMLS website.

  1. As a chronically Over Due checker outer, you deserve the honor. I’m a life long art major who just enjoys slow reading. But don’t let the excellence of 970 Studio go unrecognized. I have attended a couple of workshops there and will be scheduling a couple of gatherings there to record community and personal artwork. The facility and staff were user friendly and excellent teachers. How did the Grand Valley luck out?

  2. We have been regulars for 12+ yrs, we usually visit weekly. The staff is friendly and it’s a clean, pleasant and relaxing environment. The website is easy to navigate and we can order practically any DVDs that are out, we found them invaluable during covid when we were homebound. A great library reflects on the community in a positive way!
