Path work begins in Discovery Garden

The widened paths, made of decomposed granite, will allow better mobility through the garden.

The project is funded via a portion of a $15,000 AARP Community Challenge Grant. Grant monies also are being used to commission four unique benches, made by a local artist, which eventually will be added to the Discovery Garden. The grant is part of an effort to help communities jump-start projects that make them great places to live.

The Mesa County Libraries Discovery Garden is an interactive demonstration garden under development at Fifth Street and Chipeta Avenue in Grand Junction. Features that are planned or already underway include a variety of demonstration gardens, a children’s garden, community food plots, a pollinator garden, and a compost facility. The Discovery Garden will have space where people can gather for educational programs and events.
