Library account passwords are now required for all library cardholders.
Why do I need a password?
As cyber crime continues to escalate globally, malware and ransomware attacks, data breaches, and identity theft are frequent features in the news. Meanwhile, public libraries continue in our long tradition of prioritizing protection for our patrons as a core tenet of the Library Bill of Rights. Mesa County Libraries, along with all of our Marmot library partners, are taking this step to protect your private personal information, including your reading history, email address, phone number, and home address.
Thank you for working with library staff to better protect your privacy.
Our comprehensive Password Information FAQ below should answer most questions about library account passwords and how to reset your password. Beginning March 28, 2023, all Mesa County Libraries cardholders are required to use a password.
- If you don't have an email address: You will need to contact a library staff member to reset your password. Once they reset it, the temporary default password will be the same as your hold pickup code (last 3 digits of library card, first two letters of last name, first two letters of first name (capitalized) e.g. 123SMJO), and then you can set it to the password of your choosing.
- If you DO have an email address, you can reset your password yourself at this link. Enter your library card number and click 'Reset My Password'. You will receive an email with instructions on how to reset your password.

The same as in the past, except now you need to include your password along with your name and library card number.
When you have found a desired item in Prospector:
- Click "Request It".
- Select "Alliance--Mesa Co Public Library District" from the drop-down provided.
- Click "Submit above information".
- Enter your Name, Library Card Number, and Password in the field marked 'PERSONAL IDENTIFICATION NUMBER.'
- Choose a pickup location.
- Click "Submit".
Password cannot contain common trivial patterns. Here are some examples of what won't work:
- Do not repeat a character 3 or more times in a row (for example, 1112, zeee, x7gp3333 will not work).
- Do not repeat a set of characters two or more times in a row (for example, 1212, abab, abcabc, abcdabcd, or words that have repeating letters like queue or banana will not work).
Try something new without the repeating patterns in your password selection.
When accessing the majority of our eResources from home, you'll be prompted to enter your library card number and password to get past the initial authentication screen. You will not need to enter this information when accessing our eResources from within any library location.
